Antonio Children's Museum
Located just a short walk from the Alamo; features hands-on exhibits and activities.
Witte
Museum of History and Science
Features extensive exhibits covering the natural history and natural science of Texas;
exhibits include dioramas as well as reconstructed early Texas homes and a furnished log
cabin.
San
Antonio Museum of Natural Science
The museum features exhibits on dinosaurs, minerals, petroleum energy, etc. and
includes a planetarium, IMAX theater, a live butterfly conservatory, and a public
observatory.
Alamo
Museum and Daughters of the Republic of Texas Library
Both housed on the grounds surrounding the Alamo; the museum features artifacts from the
famous battle and from the early days of Colonial and Republic Texas.
Edward
H. White II Memorial Museum
Housed in the only remaining wooden WWI Air Force hangar; named for the San Antonio
native who was the first man to walk in space and covers the development of manned flight
and the evolution of aerospace medicine.
McNay
Art Museum
Houses ten galleries in a beautifully designed building with courtyard and gardens.
The museum also offers year round scheduled activities including musical performances, art
classes, receptions, and lectures. Golfhappy visited in Fall 2004 and was
impressed with the new work. A must visit!
San
Antonio Museum of Art
Housed in a restored complex of six buildings that was the 1883 Anheuser-Busch
brewery. The museum houses art of the Americas from pre-Columbian to modern as well as
Greco-Roman art from the 3rd Century.
Institute
of Texan Cultures
Opened as the Texas exhibit at the 1968 Hemisfair World's Fair, focuses on
twenty-sseven ethnic and cultural groups which have added their rich traditions to Texas
culture; concentrates on the people; where they came from, what they did, their food,
clothing, music, and festivals. It features a multimedia show, cultural exhibits, and
numerous other events throughout the year
